An Xactimate line item has three parts: a category code (like DRY), a selector (like 1/2) and a unit (like SF). Together they name the exact task, material and measurement. For example, DRY 1/2 is 1/2" drywall, hung, taped and floated, priced per square foot.

How to read an Xactimate line item

Step 1. Category (CAT): a three-letter code for the trade, such as DRY for Drywall or RFG for Roofing.

Step 2. Selector (SEL): a short code for the specific item within that category, such as 1/2 or 300.

Step 3. Description: the plain-English name, which includes the work included, for example "hung, taped, floated, ready for paint".

Step 4. Unit: how the item is measured and priced, such as SF (square foot), LF (linear foot), SQ (roofing square, 100 SF), EA (each) or HR (hour).

Selector suffixes matter. A "-" or "+" at the end changes the grade or scope. For example, FCC AV- is Carpet - Standard grade and FCC AV+ is Carpet - High grade.

Why prices are not listed here

Xactimate prices change by region and by month, so a fixed price on a cheat sheet would be wrong for most readers. Open the line item in Xactimate with your own price list to see the current price.

Bid items and agreed prices

Every category has two special selectors: AGP (Agreed Price) and BIDITM (Bid Item). Use them when a task has no standard line item or a price was agreed outside the price list. Add a note explaining the basis, because carriers question these lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does CAT mean in Xactimate?

CAT is the category code, the three-letter trade abbreviation at the start of a line item. DRY is Drywall, RFG is Roofing and WTR is Water Extraction & Remediation.

What is a selector in Xactimate?

The selector is the short code after the category that picks the exact item, for example the 1/2 in DRY 1/2. Suffixes like - and + change grade or scope.

What do the units SF, LF, SQ and EA mean?

SF is square foot, LF is linear foot, SQ is a roofing square (100 square feet), EA is each, and HR is hour. The unit decides how the quantity is measured and priced.

What is the difference between AGP and BIDITM?

AGP is Agreed Price and BIDITM is Bid Item. Both let you add a task that has no standard line item. Document why you used them.
